American television series that ran from 1997 to 2003. The title is also the name and occupation of the main character.
Like
Knightmare, Buffy The Vampire Slayer (often abbreviated to BtVS) featured conflict against supernatural menaces within a blend of fantasy, comedy, drama, horror and action that earned the show a cult following.
In terms of shared cast members,
Adrian Neil, who played
Ridolfo and
Captain Nemanor in
KM, later appeared in BtVS as a
vampire. More tenuously, the BtVS character of
Giles, a member of the
Watchers, was played by a British actor (Anthony Stewart Head), offering some degree of coincidence.
A number of Knightmare fans have expressed opinions on BtVS. Ark can't stand it.
Malefact detests it. Semtex Jack absolutely hates it: 'Too American. Vampires have no place in America :) They should be kept to European castles where they are free to feed on the villagers!!!! :)'
Elita agrees.
By contrast,
Drassil has found inspiration for his
filk composition in BtVS' musical episode 'Once More With Feeling', even parodying one of its songs (he rewrote Going Through The Motions as Going Through The
Potions). And
Jake Collins revealed his enjoyment of it in 'Best of the Rest', an article in
TES Issue 12:
'This show is a wonderful mix of myth and legend drawn from several thousand years of world history interpreted in a sensible and approachable way, and detailed and believable characters who interact excellently with each other. The chemistry between the four main characters - Buffy, Giles, Xander and Willow - is always maintained at a complex and enthralling level.'
In July 2005, JA Baker posted a crossover fanfic called
Enter, stranger on fanfiction.net, in which Buffy embarks on a Knightmare
Dungeon quest to rescue her sister Dawn, with friends Giles, Willow and Xander as her advisors. The fanfic was left deliberately incomplete, as an opening chapter was apparently sufficent to satiate the author's 'rabid plot-bunny'.
But perhaps the most notable connector of the two shows is the fan who appeared on UK game show
The People Versus on 06/07/2001, with the specialist subject of Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Seasons 1-4. He was an actor named Michael Cule (a.k.a.
Brother Mace,
Fatilla et al). Since that time, Michael Cule has written BtVS fanfiction using the pen name vogonguard (See:
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.)
